AI Scams Are Targeting Military Families — Spread the Word

We the Veterans & Military Families Executive Director Ellen Gustafson was recently featured in a News4JAX consumer investigation highlighting a dangerous and growing threat — AI-powered scams targeting service members, veterans, and their families.

In the report, Ellen explains how bad actors are using generative AI to create fake videos of soldiers, fabricated GoFundMe campaigns, and deepfake imagery designed to manipulate and deceive — especially during moments of heightened conflict. She notes that this is the first major U.S. conflict where fake AI-generated content is flooding social media from all sides, making it harder than ever to know what's real.

It's part of why we launched our Protect Your Six and Your Sanity campaign — a public awareness effort dedicated to helping military families spot these scams before it's too late. Because protecting our community means staying one step ahead of those who seek to exploit it.

Ellen's message is clear: if something looks emotional, urgent, or too good to be true — pause before you click, share, or donate. Verify through a trusted source first.
