We the Veterans & Military Families Launches New PSA Campaign: “Protect Your Six – And Your Savings”

Washington, D.C. – We the Veterans & Military Families (WtVMF) is proud to announce the launch of a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) designed to raise awareness about the growing threat of artificial intelligence (AI) and how bad actors and foreign adversaries online can exploit these tools to target the veteran and military family (VMF) community.

The PSA, titled “Protect Your Six – And Your Savings: AI and the Threat to the Veteran & Military Family Community,” was launched this morning across social media platforms and promoted by partner veteran and military service organizations.

This campaign was developed by the Homefront Sentinel program, a project of WtVMF which monitors online threats to the VMF community. The Homefront Sentinel protects the veteran and military family community against malicious online scams, cyber attacks, and foreign propaganda. Its mission is threefold:

  1. Raise the VMF community’s awareness of these threats;

  2. Ensure VMF community thinks critically about what they consume online; and

  3. Bolster VMF community’s use of reliable sources.

This PSA and broader initiative stem from urgent conversations WtVMF has had with a range of VSOs, MSOs, and other key partners about the increasing use of AI in scams and influence campaigns aimed at military families and veterans. The PSA demonstrates firsthand how AI will boost bad actors’ capabilities and how our community needs to take steps to begin protecting themselves and their loved ones.

“We heard loud and clear that our community wants to understand this emerging threat – and be equipped to guard against it,” said Ellen Gustafson, Co-Founder and Executive Director at WtVMF. “This campaign is about building resilience, so that veterans and military family members are aware of these threats, think critically about what they consume online, and use reliable sources to protect their six and their savings.”

WtVMF invites its partners and supporters to help amplify this message by liking, sharing, reposting the PSA video, or informing their networks through email or social media.
